Defining “beyond a reasonable doubt”

You’ve heard the term before, but what does “beyond a reasonable doubt” mean? This is the standard that the prosecution must meet in criminal cases.

In order for a defendant to be found guilty, the prosecutor must prove that no other reasonable, logical explanation exists than for the defendant to have done what he/she has been charged with. Our job as defense attorneys is to aggressively uncover every possible aspect of doubt and every weakness in the prosecutors’ case.
